How do I add company and investment fund tags?

Enterprise administrators are able to create custom tags or labels for portfolio company and investment fund records as a way to categorize them with key data points for easier tracking, filtering and reporting. You could mark a company with a tag such as Fundraising, Follow On, New CEO or Management Team, Tax Credit, Board Seat or by a specific type of exit it had, such as Write Off, IPO or somewhere in between. The possibilities are endless and totally up to you! Once you've added your tags, you can filter for them in Custom Analysis to see the entities that match the criteria, as a percentage of your portfolio, and their investment performance.

How to add a tag to a company or investment fund:

  • Add a new company or fund or edit an entry for an existing one.
  • Look for the Tag(s) field in the Basic Information section.
  • Add a tag by typing in your entry. If tags have already been created, then choose one from the list. Add or select other tags as needed.
  • Save your entry.

Note that the list of Tags is specific to companies and to investment funds, so a new tag field added to a company record will not appear in the list of investment fund tags and vice versa. However, if the same tag field is added to both companies and funds, then that tag field will represent both companies and investment funds in the Custom Analysis table in Portfolio Analysis.

How to view and analyze entries with company and investment fund tags:

  • Go to Portfolio Analysis / Custom Analysis.
  • Expand the filter for Entity Characteristics to find the field for Tag(s).
  • Choose one or more tags from the list to narrow down the list of entities based on specific criteria.
  • Download the list, including the Tag(s) field if you'd like to see the specific entries and conduct additional analysis offline by further filtering or sorting your tags.
