How can I set up view-only observers for my Seraf Enterprise Group account?

Seraf offers Enterprise clients the ability to assign an observer role to provide view only access of their portfolio to select users. To learn the specifics of what an Observer can see and do, please see this FAQ about view only access.

How to set up Observer access

We recommend that Administrators set up a separate user/investor profile for each person to whom the Observer role will be assigned. Admins should name the profile such that it is easy to identify, especially if a user also has an individual investor account, to make it straightforward to distinguish between the two Seraf accounts. The + trick works well to create a new email address (i.e. user+observer@seraf.io for observer email if investor email is already user@seraf.io).

Each Observer must be listed as an investor in Investor Management, even if they are not technically an investor, in order to be assigned access.

  • Go to Investor Management.
  • If the Observer is not already listed as an "investor", then add them as a new investor. You may want to include "Observer" or some other key word in the investor name, if the individual also has a separate investor profile, to make it easier to distinguish the two accounts. See above about creating a new email address, if needed.
  • Check the box next to the name of each person to whom you wish to give Observer access.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the table and click the button to "Change administrative privileges".
  • Follow the prompts to confirm the group and individual(s) to whom access should be granted.
  • Finally, notify the Observer(s) of their new role and access by sending a customized activation email. Once the Observer receives the activation email they can set up their own user name and password.

You may also want to share with them our Seraf Product Overview for Enterprise Group Accounts and remind them that they can only view the account from an administrator's perspective, but not modify any entries, as an Observer.

How to tell who has Observer access

Administrators can identify users in their account with observer or other administrative privilege in Investor Management by an icon next to their account information. Observers have a binoculars icon to represent their view only access. Administrative users have an icon with a person and a + symbol to indicate that they have full add/edit privileges. Deal Flow Advisors have an icon with a funnel symbol to indicate that they can assist with your deal flow funnel. Deal Flow Observers have an eye icon to represent their view only access.
